Open-Plan or Divided? Getting Small Timber Home Layouts Right

In a 25–50 m² building, one internal wall changes everything. The open-plan versus divided question is the biggest layout decision our customers make — and the right answer depends on how you'll actually live.

When Open-Plan Wins

  • Light and volume: One shared space feels dramatically bigger than the same area chopped into rooms.
  • Sociable living: Cooking, dining and relaxing in one zone suits couples and hosts.
  • Flexibility: Furniture, not walls, defines the zones — and can be rearranged any weekend.

When Rooms Win

  • Sleep quality: A separate bedroom stays cooler, darker and quieter — vital if the cabin sleeps guests while someone works.
  • Heating zones: Doors let you heat only the space you're using.

The Hybrid Tricks

Half-height partitions, sliding doors and storage walls give separation without sacrificing light. Because our panels are prefabricated, layout changes cost little at the design stage — compare floorplans across the full range, or sketch your ideas with us.
