Every Earth Day we're asked the same fair question: if you love trees, why do you cut them down? The answer is that well-managed forestry is one of the most sustainable material cycles on the planet — and the details matter.
Why Northern Forests
Pine grown in the short summers of Northern Europe grows slowly, producing tight growth rings, high density and natural resin content. That's what gives our boards their strength and weather resistance — qualities fast-grown timber simply can't match. Read more in our materials guide.
The Certification Chain
- Managed harvests: Certified forests harvest less than annual growth, so the forest expands over time.
- Replanting as standard: Every harvested stand is replanted — typically with more seedlings than trees removed.
- Chain of custody: EU certification schemes track timber from the forest to your invoice.
Carbon in the Walls
A growing tree absorbs CO₂; a timber wall stores it for the life of the building. Choosing wood over concrete isn't a compromise — it's the low-carbon option. It's a core reason we build with wood in the first place.
