Irish autumns are hard on buildings: weeks of rain, falling leaves and the first real storms. Timber cabins handle it well — if you give them a little seasonal attention. Here's our September checklist.
The Autumn Checklist
- Clear gutters and downpipes: Leaf-blocked gutters overflow down the walls, which is the single most common cause of staining and damp timber.
- Inspect seals: Check around windows and doors for gaps that opened during summer's dry spell — timber moves with the seasons, and that's normal.
- Top up surface treatment: If water no longer beads on the walls, it's time to refresh the stain or oil on exposed elevations.
- Check ground clearance: Keep soil, leaves and firewood stacks away from the bottom boards so air can circulate.
Little and Often Wins
A well-maintained cabin needs a full re-coat only every few years — the annual routine takes an afternoon. Our durability and maintenance guide covers the complete schedule, and our team can recommend the right products for your finish.
