A well-designed deck or covered veranda can turn a garden room into a proper outdoor room — one that still earns its keep once the Irish weather turns.
Why Add a Veranda
- Weather cover: A pitched or covered veranda lets you sit outside even during a passing shower — a genuine advantage on the Irish coast.
- Extra living space: A sheltered porch effectively adds a room for dining, storage or simply drying wet boots and coats.
- Kerb appeal: Timber balustrades and cross-bracing, like those on our cabin range, give a finished, holiday-home look from day one.
- Protects the walls: An overhanging roof shields log walls from driving rain, reducing long-term maintenance.
Decking Choices
Raised timber decking works well on sloped or uneven gardens, avoiding the groundworks a patio would need. Pressure-treated or thermally modified boards resist rot in our damp climate, and a simple sub-frame can be levelled independently of the cabin's own foundation. For coastal sites in counties like Wicklow or Cork, ask us about salt-resistant fixings.
Planning It In From the Start
Verandas and decks are easiest — and cheapest — to specify at the design stage, alongside your choice of cladding and roofing materials. Adding one later is possible but usually means extra groundworks. If your cabin will double as a holiday letting, a covered outdoor seating area is also one of the features guests rate most highly in reviews.
