Preparing for Winter: Why Insulation Matters in Timber Homes

With winter fast approaching, heating bills are on everyone's mind. One of the biggest myths we encounter is that timber homes are cold. In reality, modern timber cabins are some of the warmest structures you can build.

The "Winter-Ready" Specification

At MF Timber House, our cabins are engineered to defeat the damp, cold Irish winter:

  • Thick Log Profiles: We use dense Nordic pine (up to 180mm with twin-skin systems) which naturally traps heat.
  • Double Glazing: Standard across all our models to prevent draft and condensation.
  • Advanced Roof & Floor Insulation: We install thick layers of XPS and rock wool to ensure heat doesn't escape through the roof or foundations.

Practical winter tips

Keep vents clear, maintain a low constant heat, and choose cordless blinds that help retain warmth while still letting light in.

A well-insulated timber cabin heats up faster than concrete and holds that heat for hours, slashing your energy bills significantly.
